Meijer is a leading retailer in the USA, with stores in Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, and Illinois, providing shoppers with high value brands at a low cost. They wanted to raise their competitive edge and deploy an tablet app for shoppers to place orders online and pick-up their products offline.

Meijer also wanted to enable shoppers to use their tablets and make changes to their shopping cart on-the-go. This allows families and smaller parties to shop at their own pace, and make modifications as necessary, even after placing their order, in turn providing them with a continuous shopping experience.

Initial research and ideation (stakeholder interviews, features definition workshops, benchmarking, keyword mapping, and shop-a-longs) informed the final concepts and features of the service.

WIDGETS FRAMEWORK
The landing screen highlights relevant content through a widgets framework. Widgets prompt the user to shop and browse products based on content widgets that may be personal or promotional; this way giving shoppers direct access to products, deals and recipes that are tailored to each customer. There are 3 types of main widget interactions: Pop Up, Category, or a hybrid of both. These widgets can trigger a PopUp and/or lead to a category section within shop or list. An additional Search widget performs a quick search.

MY CART
The mini cart slides from the right allowing the user to review their items before checking out. Tapping Checkout will trigger the order confirmation flow where shoppers can still review their items and make modifications to their list. Once items have been reviewed, the shopper is prompted to confirm their payment details and select a pick-up store location, date and time.

BROWSE PRODUCTS
Products can be browsed by aisles, shopping history, favorites, mPerks, weekly ads, and recipes. For example, shopping by recipes inspires shoppers to plan their shopping around a meal and add recipe-related items to their cart.

SEARCH
The Search feature allows shoppers for search for a specific product by typing in a keyword using predictive search, scanning a barcode, and using voice command as a hands-free search tool.
